PRESS RELEASE: Mid North Coast Community Legal Centre

Mid North Coast Legal Needs Analysis A REPORT on legal service demands across the Mid-North Coast has clearly established the need for a Community Legal Centre (CLC) in the region

The Mid North Coast Legal Resources Directory (updated) is a collection of free legal assistance organisations and other related resources available for people living on the Mid North Coast of NSW and is the work product of the Port Macquarie Neighbourhood Centre as part of the Mid North Coast Community Legal Centre Project.  The Directory includes not only organisations that provide legal advice per se, but also agencies that provide help with law-related issues like alternative dispute resolution, child support, consumer information, financial counselling and discrimination.

Manual for Disability Advocates Assisting Victims of Violent Crime (pdf) The manual was produced by DA for disability advocates. However, we hope it will be a useful resource for all people who assist people with a disability.

The manual was produced by Catherine Peek, Regional Coordinator, at DA because people with a disability are more vulnerable to becoming victims of crime. Also many people receive their disability through a crime (e.g. brain injury). The manual explains the compensation and counselling that are available to victims of crime and how to access these services.

Mental Capacity Checklist (pdf) From time to time those who work for or support people with a disability are confronted with situations where the level of a person's disability may affect his or her ability to make important decisions. While there should be a presumption of capacity to make decisions for all people with a disability there are situations where an individual's diminished capacity may seriously undermine his or her interests. The purpose of this checklist is to assist people like disability advocates, lawyers, disability & aged care workers etc to consider all relevant issues if they must make such an assessment. This checklist is not meant to replace more comprehensive assessments by relevant professionals.
